Respected Transcendental Meditation teacher passes away at 90
Pioneering meditation teacher Nancy Cooke de Herrera has died on February 28 at the age of 90.
De Herrera worked as a publicist for Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the 1960s and traveled with him on a trip to South America. She was the liaison for the Maharishi and The Beatles during their widely publicized visit to Rishikesh in India.
She taught the practice of Transcendental Meditation for the remainder of her life. Madonna, Greta Garbo, Sheryl Crow, Judd Apatow and Paula Abdul were among the students who learned Transcendental Meditation techniques at de Herrera’s home in Beverly Hills, Calif.
With the help of friends, she also built two hospitals for abused children in Los Angeles.
