Transcendental Meditation

Jerry Seinfeld: “Transcendental Meditation is a charger for your body and mind”

“You don’t have to slam yourself, to kill yourself with being a person,” says the celebrated stand-up comedian Jerry Seinfeld who knows a thing or two about the challenges of … well, just being a human being.

Jerry Seinfeld (b. 1954) is an American stand-up comedian and television/film producer, best known for playing a semi-fictional version of himself in the sitcom Seinfeld. He has won several awards for his performances, and was ranked the 12th greatest comedians of all time by Comedy Central.

Seinfeld and his daily practice of meditation

“I’ve been doing Transcendental Meditation for over 40 years,” Seinfeld reveals. “Doing TM will help you to take things more easy.”

In fact, the comedian is dead serious when he claims that he couldn’t have survived without this daily practice of meditation.

“With the Seinfeld, I was doing a TV series in which I was the star of the show, the executive producer of the show, the head writer, in charge of casting and editing, for 24 episodes on network television—not cable—for nine years!” Seinfeld recalls.

“And I’m just a normal guy. And that was not a normal situation to be in… So I meditated every day. And that’s how I survived the nine years.”

“But it’s very hard to explain…” he admits. “Do you know how I was describing TM to somebody? It’s like having… you know, your phone has a charger, right? It’s like having a charger for your whole body and mind. That’s what Transcendental Meditation is!”

Driving your car, stopping for gas

In a recent entertaining chat with Bob Roth on, Seinfeld came up with a few more spot-on analogies.

Jerry Seinfeld is supporting the David Lynch Foundation effort to bring TM to people suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Jerry’s three children and wife are also practicing the technique.
